Location - Where is the Peak District?
Although covering parts of Greater Manchester, Staffordshire, Cheshire and South and West Yorkshire, the Peak district lies mainly in northern Derbyshire. It can be located in central and northern England, near big cities such as Sheffield and Manchester and the counties of Cheshire, Staffordshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South and West Yorkshire.
The Peak District covers 542 square miles of land, some of the most beautiful pieces of land in which your eyes will ever behold.
It is usually divided into two sections, in the north, the higher, wilder Dark Peak (consisting mainly of shale and gritstone), and in the central and south-west, the much gentler White Peak (consisting mainly of limestone, in places is cut by breath-taking dales).
Many of the hilltops are secretly the location of ancient burial grounds, dry-stone walls pattern the landscape, countless sheep graze the meadows, varieties of species of plants are unique to the district.
Just some of the villages within the peak district are:
Ashleyhay
Ashopton
Ashover
Atlow
Castleton
Delph
Denshaw
Denstone
Mastin Moor
Matley
Oakamoor
Oakerthorpe
