Potential Risk
Tripping and falling Crossing the road - Traffic accident Getting lost Speaking to members of the public Bad weather Medical Emergency. |
What is the risk?
A student could trip over unstable ground and fall, perhaps causing a major injury to themselves such as breaking their ankle. When crossing the road, a student may not watch where they are going and get hit by a mode of transport (e.g. a car) and end up with major injuries which could lead them to going into hospital or even leading to death. When on the visit a student could wander off and get lost in Castleton. People may become aggressive towards you. It may be extremely bad weather which can cause the students to catch things such as colds or the flu. In some cases it could lead to hypothermia. Students may have allergic reactions such as a nut allergy, which could badly affect them, even stop them breathing. Students may also fall ill and could end up in hospital. |

Control Measures
Make sure to keep an eye on where you are going at all times to ensure no injuries. Make sure to look left and right when crossing the road and watch out for any vehicles. When in Castleton always travel in a minimum group of three's to ensure safety. Have a mobile phone with you with the school number on to ring any member of staff if you need them. Carry a map with you so you know where you are. Stay calm, say sorry for bothering them and leave the situation immediately. Have clothing for all types of weather climates and remember to bring things such as an umberella for extreme weather. Fill in a medical sheet before going on the visit to ensure that teachers can give you certain medication if you fall ill. Remember to bring any necessary medication, such as Epi-pens or insulin, with you on the trip. |
