There are two different types of data i am intending to collect when carrying out my study in Castleton, primary data and secondary data.
Primary Data
Primary data is collected by the person who is carrying out the study by using many fieldwork techniques, such as: tourist questionnaires, traffic counts, traffic counts. This means that the data collected is up to date when showing the results, rather a major advantage. Unfortunately, the time you take the data could affect the quality of the data collected due to the different tourist activitiy being at different times. You are also more prone to errors when taking your own data, this possibility could weaken the reliability of your results.
Secondary Data
Secondary data has already been collected by other people for a purpose of their own. This can be gathered by using sources such as the internet, text books, documentaries. There are many pieces of data which you can when using secondary data which you cannot whilst carrying out your own study due to things such as unavailable equipment or simply not enough time. This will make your research more powerful and stronger than it would be with only primary data. However, the secondary data could be out of date when collecting it so this is something to watch out for and take note of.
